Carrion Crow (Corvus corone corone)

This is my first bird photo, taken yesterday morning on a moorland road.
The bird was perched on a wall, so I stopped the car and took a few shots with the window wound down. I forgot that the camera settings were on auto but I’m quite happy with the results I got.

The Carrion Crow can be found anywhere from deserted moorland to city centres.
They are often found in estuaries searching for crabs and shellfish which they will drop from a great height onto rocks to break the shells.
It is also a cunning thief and killer.
It will often perch at the top of a tall tree and look intently around in all directions.
When a bird is observed building a nest the crow will remember this and later will steal the eggs.
Later in the season when the trees have leaf cover and nests are more difficult to spot he will watch for birds going back and forth feeding their young. He will then mercilessly attack and take the chicks.

I was tempted to clone out the grass but decided to leave it,I did clone out some bramble that was in the bottom right hand side.

Thanks for looking, have a great weekend.

Hi Andy

Nice photo of the bird. Very good details and colors.

Hi Andy,
Your first bird shot here is an excellent one. The exposure looks to be spot on. Colors are beautiful and detail is very good in the plumage. Composition and framing/crop look great to me. I am glad you left the grass. I think it adds to the overall shot.

Hi Andy!

Rare bird in my neighbourhood. In Poland this bird is [together with owl] symbol of wisdom. And it looks wise on your photo. Great portrait.

Hi Andy,
Very quick visit.
Well worth a big Smile.
Thanks for posting, have a great weekend.

Hello Andy,
I think this is really good shot. You managed to capture him in a very nice pose and you got some great details on the black feathers, what as far as I heard, isn't that easy. I like the grass in BG, it's not distracting and even adds a bit to the photo.
So overall, it's a great picture as for debut in a birds photography.
VERY WELL DONE!

Hi Andy
Thanks for introducing me to this bird.
The composition & POV is good and it seems like you did some excellent cloning with the bramble. Fortunately you left the grass as (IMO) it adds value to the photo.
The colours are great and you managed to get a very nice sheen on the bird’s feathers. Exposure and lighting levels are good and it shows the details of the black feathers very well. Normally the colours and details on black is a bit of a bugger.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Excellent work on the exposure, the detail in the black plumage is to be lauded.

Andy, a great debut. Welcome to the bird club.

I like composition and pov, even knowing this was taken from your car.

I like exposure too. Maybe, I'd try to add a little bit more of sharpness, but it's just an opinion.
