[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In French we call these white balls "Vesse-de-Loup", but I'm not a specialist in the domain of fungi and I don't know anything about these, not even the real name.

I found them on a rotten tree trunk covered with moss, in a middle of what seemed to be a march. Very muddy, with little rivers everywhere, trees and a lot of fallen branches. When I cam out I was wet and muddy from my head to my toes, but I brought home some nice photos so it was worth it !

There were plenty of such mushrooms, but these ones were the biggest and the most beautiful. They must be already quite old, because they were grey and no longer white and their size was almost the double of the smaller ones.
It was a very rainy day, very dark. I tried to do my best to enhance the colors. I hope you like it !

Ces petites boules blanches sont communément appelées "Vesse-de-Loup", mais je ne suis pas une spécialiste des champignons et j'ignore tout sur cette espèce, même la véritable nom.

Je les ai trouvés dans une espèce de marécage boisé, véritable paradis pour les mousses et les champignons, où je m'enfonçais parfois jusqu'aux genoux. Lorsque je suis rentrée chez moi j'étais couverte de boue de la tête aux pieds, mais j'ai réussi à faire quelques belles photos, ça valait donc le coup de se salir un peu! :-)

Ces champignons sont, à mon avis, déjà relativement âgés car ils sont gris et non plus blancs, et ils sont au moins deux fois plus grands que ceux qui poussaient juste à côté.
C'était une journée sombre et pluvieuse, j'ai fait de mon mieux pour améliorer un peu les couleurs.

Bonjour Valérie,
Je ne suis pas un spécialiste des champignons moi non plus, mais cette image me rappelle de bons souvenirs d'enfance quand on s'amusait à faire éclater ces vesses. Votre photo leur rend bien hommage. Bonne mise en contexte et netteté sont au rendez-vous.

Cannot ID these mushrooms. Sorry. Hope they were edible.
A few years back Bernardete & self ate an omelet each with mushrooms in a small village in Northern France. THE BEST IN THE WORLD!!!
