Was waiting and waiting for the heron to do something interesting and finally he yawned (dont know if they yawn or not, but he opened his mouth wide). I was not quite ready, so I think I lost a little focus on him ...
check out the retracted leg ... did not know that the foot would be completely opened when the leg is retracted ..always thought that the leg would be closed when it was retracted to be better able to fit into the body . .but the pic says otherwise .. you can see his red foot open if you look closely.
Thanks for looking!
:)

Hi Leizel, great shot. I love the open beak and one legged pose. Good details and good composition. Well done.
Hello Liezel,
It's always nice to see something new and that picture is doing that. I don't think I've ever seen a heron in such pose. The open foot is very interesting too. Picture has some good details and I like the framing here. I just think the picture is a little slant and the heron doesn't look too "stable" because of that.
Anyway, it's a great post!
WELL DONE!

Hi Liezel,
Great pose you captured. At 1/250 quite clear for the long lense - camera/lense shake becomes an issue at 420mm, 1/250 is probably the minimum shutter speed you need to handhold. You seem to have a steady hand, or did you use a tripod? For bird shots/long lense support I find a monopod with ballhead a flexibel lightweight solution.
Regards,
Gabi
