Coprinus comatus : Shaggy Mane Mushroom
The Shaggy Mane is one of the best known wild edible mushrooms. It is rarely found for sale as a fresh mushroom because of its poor keeping qualities. It has a curious habit of melting into a black goo as it matures. This is not decay but a natural autodigestive (deliquescence) process that helps disperse the mushroom's spores. |

Nice shot! I think this might work well in black and white, because the green grass takes away from the mushroom in my opinion. The focus is right on, and I really like the faded frame around the edges. The lighting is also great -- you can tell the picture was taken either in the early morning or late evening because of the low angle of the sun. My guess is late evening, because there's no dew or moisture on the grass. Nice shot!!
