Weird things can grow on the trees.

Thanks to Felipe Mateo I can say now here that this might be Phellinus ignarius. Thanks again for all of your comments, I like to learn from them.

Nice shot Birgit.
I like the colours and compostion.
It's a little soft, but still a good picture.
Well done.

Excelent sharp image and detailed fungi you captured.
Well done

Mike

Nice specimen Birgit, it seems to be growing on a live pine tree, this remembers the Phellinus ignarius because of the thickness and broken texture, but I am not sure, it has a strange shape.
You did quite well with the whites, this type fungus have an incredible ultraviolet component because the spores are fluorescent. Try to play with selective magenta/cyan/blue saturation, you will be surprised. Greetings.

Salut Birgit.
Un champignon pas très appétissant mais une bonne photo tout de même avec une finesse dans les détails.
Merci

Birgit, it's a little bit strange indeed. Great photo. It shows us how diverse nature is.

I have tried many times to get shots of these bits that grow on trees. I find it very difficult. The sharpness and detail you have got is great. I'm not a scientist. The specifics of species, et al, are not a priority for me. I just see these as an interesting part of nature. I think you have taken a fine picture!
