[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
CALOCERA VISCOSA - Calocère visqueuse (F) - Yellow Stagshorn Fungus (UK/US).
As its name suggests, this fungus has a very greasy and gelatinous texture and appearance. The little branches are elastic, and it's difficult to remove them. Color varies from bright orange to orange-yellow, but in dry weather, the colour can become orange-red. Shape shows antler-like branches often forked near the tips, therefore the common name "Jelly Antler Fungus" is sometimes given to this species. It looks like the "coral fungi (Clavaria, Ramaria) but is not related to it.
Size : up to 10cm tall.
Habitat: on roots and stumps of conifers.
Spores: white and exhale a distinctive reseda plant odour.
Season Fruiting : through most of the year, but particularly prevalent in autumn.
Occurrence : Widespread and very common.
---------------------------------------
This group was found in an epicea wood, on a beautiful ground carpeted with deep green moss. The light was low, but it was in a light patch. Stabilizing the camera on the soft ground was not easy, so I used the largest aperture to remain at an acceptable speed. The DOF is therefore limited, but, even with the focus spot on the first branches row, their gelatinous texture doesn't allow to show very sharp contours. To give you an idea of the distance, just think that the green little branches around are just moss. Due to the sun patch on this group, real colors came very well. They have not been modified.

PP : Contrast adjusted and USM (120-1,5-0) - NeatImage autofiltering.

Jean Micheal, Nice combo. this yellow staghorn against the green BG. As you say, at F/2 your DOF is limited. Does your camera have a timed shutter? How did you stabilize the camera, it's not clear from your note? TFS

Sharp and colorfull. I like it very much. Great subjetc very well photographed.

A beautiful subject and interesting shot. Could possibly have taken a little higher and centered focus toward the middle of the clump...it seems to be too far forward.
Very good notes.

I think you have made an excellent explanation of the shot in you note. The only think I would have liked in this one is just a little bit more DOF, F/4.5 is just razor cutting in our camara and would have given a bit more depth.

This is a beautifull composition and I love the colors. The DOF is a bit shallow, but still and excellent post.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Salut Jean-Michel.

good work.

Great shot Jean Michel.
Amazing colours, good details and composition.
Very well done.

J'aime beaucoup cette photo que je n'avais pas encore vue. Les couleurs sont absolument superbes. Même si la profondeur de champ n'y est pas, ça donne une aura de mystère à l'ensemble. La note est également très intéressante. Bravo!
