[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this Serval photo at a zoo near my house. To be honest, they were living in not-so-ideal conditions. Their cage was far too small for several cats to live in. The Serval in this photo kept walking along the fence without a rest for over 2 hours. After 2 hours I left the site so I don’t know whether he kept walking madly for the rest of the day or not. Personally, I don’t like zoos that much so usually I avoid visiting one. This zoo trip was a heartbreaking experience.

Servals have relatively the largest ears and the longest legs in the cat family. They also have quite long neck and small head. Their coat is tawny-gold and marked with black spots.
Head and body length: 65-100cm
Height at shoulder: 40-65cm
Weight: 8-18kg
They prey on hares, hyraxes, ground squirrels, snakes, lizards, mole rats, frogs, insects, birds. They have been known to take domestic poultry as well.
Gestation period is 2-2 and a half months. Usually gives birth to 2-5 kittens in a den.
They are widespread throughout Africa.

Wow! My initial reaction to this photo was "Wow! I've never seen anything like that before!" More striking than a cheetah, this is a beautiful, crisp photograph. What a capture!
