Today’s post is from my archives , I took it back in summer 2004.
I think it is Highland Darter (Sympetrum nigrescens), but I’m not sure.
And I’m sorry, I have not find any useful info of this dragonfly.
Maybe I will update later.
But I hope you like it anyway.

Hello Gert.
Very nice capture of this odonata.
To me it could be a female sympetrum vulgatum (vagrant darter). They look similar to S. striolatum and S. nigrescens. You can sse it on the black stripe under the eyes which is longer by vulgatum.
Gr. Hans

Hi Gert,
Not sure on the ID.
Well captured pose with good detail and just enough DoF, nice perspective also.

Regards
Terry.

Hello Gert,
Very good sharpness and detail, and I like the POV from the front, slightly high..
Excellent exposure and color of course :)
Very well done!

Hi Gert,

This is a fantastic Dragonfly study and one of the best shots of this type I have had the pleasure to view. The detail is excellent, as is the PoV and composition. The background colours compliment the Dragonflies perfectly.

TFS,

Hi Gert Cracking caapture we too have yet to see this years crop, though a few damselflies are now showing up.
A couple of thoughts on an Ident based on both the eye stripe and also the white stipe down the legs, definatly female as Hans says S. striolatum is a poss. as it has a leg stripe, but also so does S. flaveolum (Yellow winged Darter)which is found in Southern Sweden, but a mature one has yellow areas on the wings, but it maybe a juvinille/imature female which has not developed it's sexually mature colouration yet. Hope this is of some help, TFS yours Robert

Since I've had my digital cameras (2 years now) I have only seen a couple of these insects, and that was all on one day! So I just stand amazed at the beauty you show us with these excellent captures Gert!
A superb capture, sharp and clear. I love the wings!
Well done MF

Hi Gert!
Lovely mood this time. POV, composition and details are brilliant. I like brown BG and soft light. Insect is beautifull. And you were hidding such beauty in your archives for 2 years???

I am green all over as you have the dragons flying allready;-). I think the weather down here has bee a little too cold and wet.

Excellent capture Gert. The dof is perfect as well as the composition. Very good shaprness on the front of the darter.

About the ID it looks very much like a Sympetrum vulgatum to me when I look at the yellow legs. Another thing is the black line above the eyes which also point in that direction.

Anyway it is an excellent capture.

Hi Gert,
A superb macro. I like how you have isolated him so well. Great saturated color and sharp detail. The DOF is perfect. This looks great! I love those eyes.
Scott

Hi Gert

Hi Gert
This is another immaculate posting from that ever impressive archive of yours. Wow, what a stunner.
It is a fantastic composition with a splendid POV. The colours and the details are just amazing. The spectacular OOF BG compliments and enhances the dragonfly and it is this aspect of your posting that elevates it from a mere picture to a brilliant photograph (IMHO anyway). The exposure was also perfectly managed.
Very well done and TFS.

Hi Gert,
Gorgeous picture of this Darter. Perfect in all details. Excellent sharpness. Very interesting rather diagonal composition giving more impact to the beautifully shaped wings, one wing pointing to the upper corner of the picture. Excellent flashwork too.
Thanks for showing, Patrick

Hi Gert,

What a beauty. Excellent details, lighting and composition. Excellent work.
How are your eyes?

Mike

Top notch job, Gert. Perfectly sharp, taken from excellently chosen POV. I love the non-distracting background blur with just the right amount of DOF and tight framing. Superb shot. Regards,
Mark

Extra!!!:-)

lol! That is exactly how I feel about them. "Sympetrum of any kind." I still battle with the ID of these critter Gert. Even after I now have a book on all SA dragons. From now on they will all be Sympetrum ofanykindus. :)

Lovely shot as usual. Great DOF and sharpness. Looks like its wearing some sunglasses.

I would love to have something like this in my gallery Gert, fine composition and wonderful details on upper body. Very nice work indeed.
