Silvereye ( Zosterops lateralis)
This colonist was self introduced from Australia in the early 1800’s, and in the years since has spread to most parts of the country. It has adapted well to settlement and is common in home gardens as well as native forest, scrub and orchards. The Silvereye forages for a wide variety of food, taking, in addition to a natural diet of fruit, nectar and insects, handouts of bread and fat.
Seen here taking nectar in my back garden.

Hi Jim. This is an excellent photo with many good features. The hanging down style is unusual and very effective. The clarity is superb and having the native pukutukawa(?) flower is a tremendous benefit. tfs. Murray.
