[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Because I have posted several Cardinals before and given all the scientific stuff, I would like to talk a little about my experience with them.

Winter seems to be the best time to photograph Cardinals as they seem to color up to perfection. It is also alot easier to see them when the foliage is is off the trees as well. The Cardinals are not nearly as trusting as some of the other birds I encounter in the sanctury , but they are smart and inquisitive. They watch while the other birds eat out of my hand and they slowly come closer. It takes some patience to wait out these gorgeous birds, but if you wait...they will come. You have to be careful about moving quickly...when they come in range of the lens you need to move like a slow motion movie. I find that if I sprinkle some sunflower seeds on the snow and walk about 10 feet way and wait their bellies will get the better of them and they will fly down to eat. They will usually eat right there on the spot as they do not seem to take a seed and fly away to tree to eat it like the Titmice, Chickadees, and Nuthatches do.

This Cardinal was trying to pretend I couldn't see him as he was trying to get alittle closer to me and the food.

hey lesly, nice shot, good colours, well, it's a colourful bird :D good focus and dof,nice compo and very good details.i think the cardinal had a hard time hiding :D

I like very much your relevant observations from your note, Lesley. These personal descriptions have value as much than a scientific statement, I believe. That requires more efforts than simply copy-and-paste texts from Internet like I regularly do. I really appreciate those descriptions from you and from other members too.

He was comparing the dry berries to the seed that you put out :) I like your note and it is an experience most of us can relate to. The guys like Paul and them who shoot butteflies and insects can tell as another story :)
