[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
When leaving Manitoulin Island, Ontario, Canada, there is an area of what is called the "Lacloche mountains." Not really mountains, hills. This area is rocky, granite etc. This is part of the "Canadian shield" though better seen Further north. The camera unfortunately was set to black and white. This would have been a beautiful shot in color as well. The B.& W. works well for this shot as you can see by the various tones captured. Plus, it's nice to see the occasional B.& W.
Hope you enjoy this scene as I did travelling on the highway taken through the winshield of the van
with one hand end the other steering going down a steep hill with my wife yelling at me to keep my eyes on the road. :) :)
Taken with S5000 hand held.
Sorry, lost the settings.
1/500 or over F2.8 I figure. It was bright.
Not much p.p.

Mike
IMO, the lines you see to the left of the image, snow.

Nice BW shot with interesting gradation from dark tones to shades of grey to white.

Good B&W photo, rarity on TN. I like your story, too. Good composition and DOF.

Sorry, pts later.

Hi Mike
You have to speak to the wife - the idea is that SHE will hold the wheel, while YOU are busy with the more important matters!
Since I am a bird watcher, my children often shouted at me to look where I am driving, instead of driving where I look! Now they are out of the nest, and I often have to pull the car back in the road, since my wife unfortunately looks even harder than I do!
I mean, when there is a chance to see a bird, one naturally look at it. And if you can grab a shot at the same time, so much the better.
You have good tonallity here, just not 100% blacks. Refer to Ansel Adams ten grades of tonality in B&W. Real B&W is getting scarcer and an art-form which I have never mastered.
I just feel you need a bit "extra", a point of interest, to really make this swing.
Somhow, the internet did not like this note - it took me 10 ims to get back. The two cloud giants in the right corner, screaming at each other, is very nice

I was going to say "please tell me that this is black and white and that it is not that cold", but the fact is that it is that cold.

I like you and your wifes antics in the car, taking this shot - it sounds so familiar :)

I would not have known that it was taken through the windshield.

Very well done and thanks for posting. May you and your family have a wonderful and prosperous new year.

Ohhh, that type of drive-by-shooting scene sounds so familiar. :)

The thumbnail for this caught my attention very quickly. The sky, hilltop, and trees make up three rather compartmentalized areas, yet they meld together into the landscape before our eyes. Great shot, perfect for B&W.

Mike, we rarely see black-and-white pictures here. Great job with a nice POV.
