This is image is an experimentation in photoshop. I made the orginal during a mountaineering trip this spring to the Alaska Range a few hours from my home. I was playing with the levels function, just seeing what different effect did and I found if I compressed the sliders I got a very interesting effect. Which despite the digital nature of the image, I like. It is certainly quite different from what the landscape actually looked like, it does a fair job of capturing the mood, the cold high altitude clouds that had been gathering and the dark, somber montains. In fact we woke the next morning to a foot of fresh snow and white-out conditions. No climb that day!
