[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is my second post for Polyphemus Moth. This insect was so cooperative (or so asleep) that I even thought to comb his antennas. Rejecting this idea I took that picture being at one inch of him for I used my online macro function of my camera.

You will find info about Polyphemus moth on my previous post
here.

Here is a little article that I enjoyed reading from National Geographic Magazine:

What’s That Fragrance You’re Wearing?

It may not sound like the hottest thing to hit perfume counters since Chanel No. 5, but to polyphemus moths (E,Z)-6,11-Hexadecadienyl acetate is the very aroma of love. Females release this compound from special glands. Males that encounter the drifting plume of scent change course immediately, flying upwind on four-to-six-inch (10-to-15 centimeter) wings to find the pheromone-emitting female and mate with her. As in many moth species, Antheraea polyphemus males (specimen shown) can detect the come-hither fragrance of a willing female from more than a mile away.

Note for Janice:
----------------

Janice, this picture is not for you for you now are face to face with a Polyphemus Moth. Look at your own risk! ;-)

WOW! Thank you, thank you Michel, sorry I was so late visiting it! But I did get here!

This moth is a big one. What a monster, but what a soft looking teddy bear he is. BUT I would be quite scared if we were both in the same room together and he started flying around.

I love his pose with what looks like hands touching the ground in front of his face (I know they aren't hands) and the slight angle he has his head on. And those huge antennae, like feather dusters.

It's an excellent shot, thank you very much - but you can keep him over there in Quebec! Thanks Michel
