Common Tern
Sterna Hirundo
Sterne Pierregarin

Taken at the end of spring 2004 at parc de la Terrasse Serre - Rapides de Lachine in Montréal (Arrondissement LaSalle). The bird was fishing at sunset in the rapids.

From Birdguides.com:
The Common Tern is so similar to the closely related Arctic Tern, that many birdwatchers admit defeat and simply call them 'Commic Terns'. When an adult is seen at rest, look for an obvious black tip to a long crimson-red bill and the. Common Terns also have longer legs than Arctic Terns and their shorter tails don't protrude beyond the wing tips. In flight the problem is resolved if you see, an obvious contrast between dark outer primaries and pale inner ones. This feature can be hard to detect in early spring but becomes obvious as the summer progresses. The juveniles can be distinguished from Arctic Terns by the conspicuous dark panel in the forewing which, at rest, stands out as a dark patch near the bend of the wing.

Well done on the capture of the Tern, ready for a dive. Clear and crisp.

Jolie photo. Bonne mise au point et bon cadrage. L'exposition est aussi très bien contrôlé permettant de voir les détails sur l'oiseau.

Great shot Rene, the Tern is beautifully focussed and you took the bird when the wings were in perfect place. Another one of your beautiful work.

Rene, Stunning image. You have captured this at exactly the right moment IMO. I love the clear background. It realy enhances the bird. Good sharness to the image. Great frame too. Congratulations and TFS

Stunning shot, well caught.
TFS.

Beautiful pose you captured, nice stop-action shot, good details on the wings. Tricky exposure to get right, as you have to balance the black of the head against the white of the rump. I think you did well ;-))

Great shot Renè
This is a typical pose of a tern and tou catch it so well.
Very good exposure, details and compostion.
Very well done.

Might be a common tern, but this is not a common shot! I see you have taken out the "cannon" for this one - the shape is typical, and they are SO beautiful, I love these birds. Pity I am 1000 km from the sea. They look a lot like the Caspian tern too. This one is in breeding plumage too.
I will post more of the eagle later. I want to make a 3-in a row like Mogens, but is is a lot of work.
Also, I would rather rotate species.

Great work Rene. Excellent Frame. Great composition and notes. Very well done

Rene, this is a fantastic capture - so sharp and full of details. I am green all over;-). I have tried so many times to get a good shot of these swift birds. You captured this one perfect hanging over the water just before the dive for prey. Outstanding action shot.

Merci

He is ready to take a dive and a second or so later you would have had an empty frame. I have lots of shots of Kingfishers that has no Kingfishers in them.

The sharpness is good and the moment excellent.

Very well done and thanks for posting

Rene, another stunning shot of yours. I have some problems when I have to shoot birds against blue skies - the photos tend to be grainy.

Another very beautiful shot. Excellent POV and great "pose"

I am so glad I had a chance to look at some earlier shots I missed out on. This is a wonderfull composition. The subject placement is perfect to get the most impact. Tack sharp too. Well done.
