There is a WORKSHOP showing the inside of a watermill.

The death of the rivers.

Galicia has a lot of rivers and streams, it is called "the land of the thousand rivers".
Some decades ago, the inhabitants of this places, made watermills like the one in the photo to take advantage of the energy of falling water. At first is is obvious to think that it was hard times, and they did not worry about the visual impact in the landscape. But there are so many, and most so beautiful, that I have my doubths.

Some time ago this rivers have been filled of electric minicentrals, as an "ecological" substitute of burning mineral materials.
Our new goverment has stopped all future projects and intends to re-buy the concesions and demolish some to recover the original rivers, I am afraid it is to late now, but worse is nothing.

If you follow down this wonderful stream, in 300 meters part of the water is stollen and directed through a huge pipe 20 ot 25 meters down the hill to one of this stupid minicentrals. I can tell you it is a crime to see how only a small amount of the water is left, not enough to permit a minimun of wild life in the river.
There is no opportunity for the species to go up the river for reproduciotn purposes, salmons, trouths and other species have dissapeared of a lot of streams.
A superb place like this one is disturbed with a 60 Cm. pipe, a noisy building and power towers :(
And all this to produce a ridiculous amount of Kw.
If there is not enough water, the power factories must stop, but this is not controlled, and I have seen drying up the rivers!
Sometimes I ask to myself, why are humans so stupid?

This time, I hope you dont like!

Hi Felipe,
What a stunning photo with such good use of the slow shutter time. The details in this photo are outstanding with such an amazingly good depth and composition. The creek draws me straight into the photo and lets me explore the beautiful area. I love the old mill in the center of the photo and it gives a great balance to it all.
TFS,
Niek

I have always likes the slow shutter shots of water. You have not only captured the water but the landscape here is beautiful. Great photo TFS.

Hi Felipe,
Lovely shot, Very nicely saturated colors, great detail and exposure..DOF, framing, and POV are top-notch IMHO :)
And I must agree, man has been extremely short-sighted, with regard to maintaining natures balance and the environment..Hopefully it's not too late :(
Very well done.

Great but sad note, my friend. Very good question, I ask it myself very often. Similiar situation in Poland. Every new government do something more stupid than previous, they don't think about future, only about next election. Old mills have got charm and coexist well with nature. Now every new computer or tv is hungry for KW, so most people prefer luxury life than natural landscapes or care about wild life. I like your WS picture - look at mine - http://www.treklens.com/gallery/Europe/Poland/photo85601.htm

Bellissima foto Felipe, sembra un paesaggio incantato, complimenti!!
Ciao.

Hola Felipe,

This is a stunning photo Felipe. I love the sharpness and the richness of the color. Beautiful image despite your sad commentary. Even more than political stupidity is the pocketbook arrogance. From where will the their money come once all the resources are gone? The shortsightedness of it all boggles the mind.

Hi Felipe
A beautiful spot....to bad humans can damage things so quickly.
The moss on the rocks, the water, trees and ferns add so much to your photo. This is how nature should be...just natural. Beautiful soft colours, nice textures in the rocks and plants. Composition is excellent. TFS Janice

Hi, Felipe.
Really nice landscape you have here. Like a painting. Excellent composition - this hut in the empty place adds a lot and make composition very balanced. Exposure and depth are also very good.

Great pic.
Lots of details and colors. Good exposure producing a wonderful effect.
This is great!
