The Great Grey Owl (Strix nebulosa) is a very large owl.
I shot this one to Luisenpark (Ecomuseum) Mannheim

Adults have a round head with a grey face and yellow eyes with darker circles around them. The underparts are light with dark streaks; the upper parts are grey with pale bars. This owl does not have ear tufts.

Their breeding habitat is dense coniferous forest near open areas or bogs. They usually take over an old nest previously used by another large bird, such as a raptor. Four eggs is the usual clutch.

They breed in North America from Lake Superior to the Pacific coast and Alaska, and from Scandinavia across northern Asia. They are permanent residents, but may move south and southeast when food is scarce.

These birds wait, listen and watch for prey, then swoop down; they also may fly low through open areas in search of prey. They mainly eat small mammals, sometimes small birds. On the nesting grounds, they mainly hunt at night and near dawn and dusk; at other times, they may be active day or night. They have excellent hearing and may capture prey moving beneath the snow.

The call is a series of deep whoos.

This is the provincial bird for the province of Manitoba.

Quelle netteté, c'est un trés joli "portrait" Les couleurs sont magnifiques. C'est bien aussi de ne pas l'avoir centré. Vous ne dites pas si ce bel oiseau est en liberté ou bien dans un zoo?
Un grand bravo.

This is stunning. The BG supports the image well and the exposure is superb.

Well done and thanks for posting

Sorry, I missed that one, Philip! Its a stunning shot, because, besides the beauty of this owl, eyes look expressive, kind of inquisitive. I know it's a human impression, but when an animal can be caught with something in the eyes, it makes a splendid portrait. This is one of those. Very good framing and background. A favorite. Congratulations.

Hi,Philip
I like your work. This is an another perfect shot. Details&sharpness are great.
One of my favourite

Please add my congratulations to the long list of others already entered Philip. A great image.

What an amazing bird. Owls have always intrigued me. The owl is also a symbol of the Girl Guides of Canada. The leader of the Brownie level is called a Brown Owl.
The focus on the eyes is terrific. Good clear details. Very well done. I dream of taking a photo like this.

What can I say that has not been said already? Truly a picture of note. TFS.

It's just perfect portriat. Great details, colors and sharpness.
