Variously reported with wingspans between 55 and 75 mm, the common bluebottle has black upper wings and brown lower wings. Both fore and hind wings are marked by a central spot in the form of a blue or blue-green triangle, with apex pointing toward the body. The common bluebottle is known for quick flight and rapid reactions. It is difficult to catch.

While returning back from our regular Butterfly photography in Kudremukh, at around mid-noon, we came across this Blue bottle sucking salt from the rocks. I was chasing it to take some close up shots and it allowed me to go as close as 3 inches. But i did manage quite well with 105mm macro. This was taken hand held and resting my elbows on ground.

Hi Satish,
Great shot. Very sharp and clear. Superb details. Nice off-centered compo, good blurry BG. Excellent close up picture.

Hallo Satish,
the butterfly you show is a very fast flyer, rather shy and mostly seen with the wings closed. Its name is
-- Polyura athamas
-- family: Nymphalidae
-- subfamily: Charaxinae
The composition of the picture is good, sharpness could be a bit higher and the background noise a little bit lower.
Best wishes, Peter

Satish, this is a lovely butterfly! The colors are beautiful and natural. Your DOF and POV are perfect! Great work!

Very impressive! The sharp focus on the butterfly blends in beautifully with the browny background.

Namaste Satish,
I think it is very impressive to see such a beautiful butterfly in Nature. We have to go to a tropic butterfly house to see them.
Thanks for sharing this beauty with us
