[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My wife spotted this butterfly on our walk today. It's a Pearl Crescent, Physiodes tharos tharos (Drury, 1773), common in central and eastern US, Mexico, and Canada. The orange antennae tips suggest that this is a female.
Pearl crescents belong to the brush footed family, Nymphalidae.Typical habitat includes old fields, pastures, vacant lots, lawns, waste areas, prairies, fens, sedge meadows, alfalfa and clover fields, lake margins, and open woodlands.
The caterpillar feeds on several species of smooth-leaved true asters including Aster pilosus, A. texanus, and A. laevis.
Shot with monopod.

HI Greg, pretty butterfly, but I wonder where they get the name "Pearl" from. It has quite a busy pattern, but the orange and brown looks great. Well captured, thank you
Janice

Yup, I've seen my share of these. Very nice clear crisp photo of this one.

Hi Greg

Nicely composed with very good POV showing all the detail and pattern to the wings. :-)
