Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus). Following on from my previous posts of the Bald Eagle, some more notes about Native American beliefs around the Eagle, a subject I find really interesting.

The eagle is highly revered by many Native American Indian cultures which have special eagle dances, ceremonies and societies. Both bald eagles and golden eagles along with their feathers are considered sacred.

It is said that the Creator chose the eagle as the master of the skies. Since eagles fly higher and see better than other birds, they are considered to be closer to the Creator than any other Earth creatures. The eagle is regarded as a messenger to the Creator. It has the honor of carrying the prayers of humans in the world of the Earth to the world of Spirit where the Creator resides. It is believed that if one saw an eagle while praying or participating in a ceremony, prayers would be answered. Wearing or holding an eagle feather would also cause the Creator to take immediate notice.

Some Native American Indian tribes regard the wings of an eagle to be significant in representing the balance between a male and a female with each one dependent upon the strengths or abilities of the other.

In addition to feathers, eagle talons and skulls were also used in ceremonies and religious practices of many Native American Indian tribes. The feathers were so highly respected that if for any reason an eagle feather was dropped, certain tribes like the Cherokee made it a necessity to have it cleaned. The eagle feather was to be guarded until the proper cleansing ceremony was performed.

The Native American Plains Indians used the eagle's wing bones to make whistles they blew during certain dances. The Native American Pueblo Indians of the southwestern United States considered the golden eagle to be the war eagle and kept its molted feathers. Many Native American Indian tribes used eagle feathers on weapons and headdresses to symbolize victories and courage.

Hi Adrian,

Perfect exposure and maximun details. Eye and beak are absolutely well captured.
I have read your notes and thinking about what kind of reasons made important eagles to humans I realize how necesary is a paradigm change to put animals -form eagles to worms- in its authentic place in Earth.

Best regard my friend.

Hi Adrian

Not bad, not bad... i could do better :))))))) (BTW, that's the joke of the day)
Seriously now, it's a simply impecable portrait of this icon of a bird!
A really great look you managed to capture here...was he watching something very closely?
Excellent POV, super sharp details, perfect colors and contrast and very good exposure are only some of the elements that complete this fabulous composition.
Greay work, my friend! Glad again to see your shots!

Cheers
Horia

Hi Adrian,

Nice portrait. Great colours. Great sharpness in beak, eye, plumage...
Cropping is a bit tight IMO but it is as it is a bit of your trademark...and I don't mean this in a negative way. Maybe if the quality is outstanding it is 'acceptable'.
The exposure bias...I wonder if it is done to get detail in upper head white part which is always a difficult area.
Excellent work

Hello Adrian,
This is really impressive. I understand these beliefs about this bird because it is so majestic! I saw one in the wild once you remember? And by looking at them flying, you get this sense of infinite power! This portrait is a very nice tribute to this exceptional bird. Details are fantastic. Well done and thanks for these useful notes.

Hello Adrian..
A razor sharp eye and excellent exposure with the perfect BG. Dramatic close composition works very nicely :)
I enjoyed the notes regarding Native American Indians, which make up part of my ancestry..I especially like this part & I quote:

"Some Native American Indian tribes regard the wings of an eagle to be significant in representing the balance between a male and a female with each one dependent upon the strengths or abilities of the other".

Anyway she likes it ;)
Very well done.

Hello Adrian
Another perfect master piece from your lens. This raptor, although possibly one of the most photographed eagles on TN, still looks fresh and original every time you share a new photo showing its majestic beauty.
Technically the shot is superb and it is evident from the close crop of this excellent composition, the exquisite details captured on the feathers, beak, and eye, the stunning colours, the perfect OOF and complimentary dark green BG, and the well balanced exposure showing some amazing contrast.
Splendid work my friend and TFS.

Hello Adrian, very nice shot with stunning details in the pens. Some blown highlights in the whites I wonder if that was beyond correction in Raw. In such cases would you ever be tempted to use the healing brush to redeem such hot areas. Well done.

Hello Adrian,
As a big fan of the bald eagle, I was happy to have found this image of yours. Certainly one of the best portraits I've seen of this majestic bird. Tremendous detail and excellent color, contrast. Very well done.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Clarity is nice. The eyes are important to have in focus for close ups as this.Which you did.
I imagine you would like my part of the world where we have one of the largest counts of these in the wild.Seeing them go about their ways in natural surroundings is so fascinating.

FANTÁSTICA foto Adrian!
Cores belíssimas; os detalhes são de uma perfeição incrível...a textura das penas, um trabalho lindo, parabéns!

Abraço,
Vera.

Hello Adrian,
