[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Black Swallowtail Caterpillar residing on it's host plant, Fennel. The Black Swallowtail cats also like Dill as well, so if you have a butterfly garden and want to add this species to it, be sure to plant these two herbs. Besides...they serve a double purpose...one for attracting these cats and the other for culinary delights.

I think that the Black Swallowtail caterpillar is almost a handsome as it's butterfly form, but much more benevolent than it's winged adult self.

Am I too whimsical to feel there's a distant echo here of trams/trains - one coming/going on this branch and on the distant branch(-line) a similar determined movement? :o)

Lovely colours, the DOF is good, I think the end of the caterpillar slipping out of focus works well for this one. Good composition and note too. Well done.

Lesley, this is an exceptional composition. I love the colours and lines of what looks like "agapanthas". The contrasting colours of the cat makes him stand out, nicely. Great work. I dared to make a WS to edit the soft part of the tail. Please tell me what you think.

Colores muy agradables, perfecta perspectiva y encuadre.
Lástima la pequeña pérdida de definicion en el extremo del insecto (hay algo por delante?)

Excellent macro shot Lesley. the clever use of dof sets the caterpillar off very well and the colours are just great. I like this one with the space around the main subject - and yes, it looks great like the adult. Well done.

Great colors and contrast. The composition is good also. The caterpilar creeping into or out of the mist. Good one.

What I like best about this photo (and you may not have even thought of it as you snapped the shot) is that the caterpillar has a slight curl to it. I think this lends a sense of motion to the shot (albeit slow motion). If the caterpillar had been in full stretch, it would be just another stagnant shot. Good job.
