Another shot of Blea Tarn from my Lake District winter series - I really love the feeling that the fir tree just belongs by the tarn and has overlooked it for so many years, through countless seasons... I feel this is a very peaceful scene, it's a truly lovely spot and one I'd recommend to anyone.

The tarn nestles 600 ft up by Lingmoor Fell between Great and Little Langdale and is apparently only 23 ft deep - not that I intend to find out!

Post processing - saturation +7, resize, USM, border.

the tree is good but could be more left..so we dont see a 'split' if you can 'see' what i mean
the third tends to make the tree more prominent and show the left side of it to advantage whereas we want the eye to travel to the right
nit pick!!
it certainly is peaceful and well represented in that way by your technique..tripod...YES!!
one can feel the razor edge of those pixels
cheers

what a lovely scene from the Lakes... peaceful and calm and so very sharp.

I have to agree with Geoff about the position of the tree. If the foliage of the tree was the other way round, them its placement would have been fine, but beucase it is 'heavy' on the right hand side, it really needs to be more to the left to balance out the picture.

I am wonderfing if it woudl work better if you had stepped to the left of the tree and had more of the fell side showing with the fell falling off picking up the tree on the right? just a thought.

beautiful shot, the lake is so calm and peaceful with just the faint ripple from a breath of wind. Like the tree in the foreground and its placement there. nice rich colors and sharpness. Border is also very attractive.. TFS

Hello Doug , A Beautifull Landscape foto , good compositie colours sharpnes bg and framing ,tfs Good Weekend Teunie .

Bonjour Doug

J'aime beaucoup cette photo avec ce merveilleux paysage, cet endroit a l'air si paisible. Les détails sont magnifiques, tout comme les couleurs . C'est une excellente composition .
Merci et au revoie ,passe un bon week end...JP

I like this image a lot Doug. It is indeed a beautiful fir tree, and the sharpness with which you recorded it makes it really special. I love the crooked branches hanging downward. It is interesting to see a reasonably large tree in the lake district. I've never been there but was under the impression that there few trees if any left; although it was quite wooded in the past.???? It's a lovely photo. The only nit might be that the very pale aqua sky hints at some overprocessing. I find I have better luck enhancing images in sections rather than the whole at once.

Great autumn photo! Crisp clear details here, and very good exposure on the ground. I`ve been following the "composition-discussion" here, and I have been looking and looking at the picture. I guess I`ve concluded that, as so often before, there is no final answer to it. I mostly agree with the others that it would have been a nice picture with just the right side of the tree in the left corner - but that would be a different picture. What I liked about THIS composition was the reflection and texture of the hills on the left side of the tree. It fills up the empty hole where there should be branches. This composition - it works for me - no doubt.

I just critiqued your 'special tree' photo and now I've seen this one. I had no idea before that it was Blea Tarn, and now I feel I have to comment on this one as well :) this will be the 3rd Blea Tarn image I've seen today. It's a very beautiful and peaceful spot and this is the first image I've seen from this 'left side' without the towering pikes in the background. The tree as a focal point make it very effective, though.
Well done.

Hi Doug

I was just having a look at your pictures and loved the look of this place. I like the composition here but even more than that I loved the light here. Wonderful scene
