[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This guy was wandering around Tomaree National Park at Shoal Bay. It was the first time I had ever seen, or even heard of, a Lace Monitor so he took me by some surprise. He is about a metre long. Not knowing them at the time, this is about as close as I was getting.

They can grow to greater than 2 metres in length. They are the second largest monitor in Australia (the Perentie is the largest). They frequent both open and closed forests. I have another picture of this same guy entering the forest. The camouflage is superb. The females lay 4 to 14 eggs in the spring or summer in hollow trees or termite nests. They will often return to this nest to help their young hatch. Unlike many other lizards, these ones have forked tongues.

Welcome to Trek Nature.
Interesting capture of this Lace Monitor. He has a very unique colour pattern. I think the shot would have been a bit better if you would have got his tail in the photo, but a nice photo just the same. Good notes and nicely framed.
TFS Janice....Plumb is a family name of mine....maybe we are related ??? Did you use to live in Manitoba or Ontario?
