One of my favourite places

-= Loch Scavaig, Isle of Skye =-

If you're familiar with some of the photos by Joe Cornish you may recognise a similar scene illustrating his great album "First Light".
I was so much enchanted by this scenery that I decided to have my version of this amazing place.

When I arrived to the shore it was such a glorious evening. That's why there was so many people wandering around - with tripods, cameras etc.
I was a bit distracted by that, as I usually prefer to work alone. Unfortunatelly my favourite spot was already taken by two folks, who covered the area with their gear :(

I was, therefore, forced to find another place. I took a few shots from around (that I may post here some day) but was still thinking about coming back my favourite location. After the sun hid behind the mountains the guys left - there was a time for me :)
I decided to make a good use of some of the remaining light that was still present.

The exposure here was very tricky as virtually no filter was useful with this composition. That's why I went for a HDR image technique.

Some details :

Focal length = 12mm, f/22, t = 1/4s, 1s, 4s
Blended together manually in PS

PS. I hope you can see all the details here - as it may be a problem where seen on non-calibrated screens.

Here is the link to make sure your monitor shows what you should see (at least theoretically)

Hi Piotr

Fantastic POV, i love the lines of the rocks on the left leading the eye in and the splash of orange completes it perfectly. Another great shot from an amazing place.

Cheers,

Paul

Hello Piotr,
It appears you have found the right place at the right time for this beautiful image!
The huge rock on the right points marvelously to the sunset on the left. Excellent composition!
Congratulations!

This too is another impressive picture!
Although the mountains and sy looks equaly impressive as the previous, the details and textures of these eroded massive rocks are the things that caught my attention.
Wonderfully done!
Also very interesting is the fact that they all seem to point the center of the frame... ;)
Superb colors and tones, again, and, as usual, a lovely composition.

Bravo and TFS

PS: what is the HDR technique? (please kkep in mind that i'm a rookie :) )

Hi Piotr,
Excellent work on the HRD technique. It is something I still want to try and learn. You waiting was well rewarded with the beauty of the almost disappeard sun. Great work on the details and the colors. There are two strange spots in the photo and I can't seem to understand. One is in the right bottom corner and one is...well actually there are a few more. Is this from the HRD?
TFS,
Niek

What a wonderful picture from Skye.

It is a really nice one with great composition and foreground elements. I really like it.

thanks for all the help with the filters. I am now getting a Lee filter system instead! The new lens arrived last Monday...

Hi Piotr,
This is definitely on the best sunset possible in this planet. (Maybe in another one there would be better ones:-)) Irrational elements needs more time to express the feeling that your image evoke. So I can't criticize it accordingly.
TFS, José M.
