[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Australian White Ibis has to be one of the strangest birds I’ve come across so far. The head and much of the neck are featherless while the rest of its body is covered by white plumage. It has a very peculiar long and down-curved beak. It is very common and widespread in northern and eastern Australia. It prefers habitats including swamps, lagoons, floodplains and grasslands. It is especially becoming common, to the point of being a pest, in urban parks and gardens.

The range of food includes both terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates and human scraps. The most favoured foods are said to be crayfish and mussels, which the bird obtains by digging with its long bill. The bill is also a very fine tool for selection of scraps from park waste containers.

This shot was taken while I was strolling around Hyde Park in Sydney. There was no fear on the part of the birds, so taking the shot was relatively easy. Post processing included: selective noise reduction, selective adjustments for shadows and highlights, some levels adjustments and sharpening for this post.

Hello John,
Very interesting your presentation of this white ibis.
Despite is a little OOF, or soft, we can appreciate the profuse of feathers, and specially their distribution around the neck.
I like the pose, the frame and the composition used.
