[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Indian Muntjac or more popularly known as the Barking Deer due to its alarm call being a sharp bark. Shriller versions indicate normall call. More frequently heard than seen, the deer is a very shy and elusive animal bolting into the undergrowth even at the slightest noise or distant human presence. The males have long upper canines and horns. The hind legs of this species are longer than the forelegs. The species sport a glossy brown coat with no underfur. Height at shoulder 50-75 cms and weigh between 15 to 28 kilograms. The species is an inhabitant of hilly, evergreen and thick deciduous forests.
