[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I want to post 4 pictures of the same bird over the next 4 days - 2 M & 2F; 2 mug shots & 2 full body images, starting with this mug shot of the male. Birds belonging to the order Passeriformes are called Passerines & make-up nearly 2/3 of all the nearly 10 000 bird species of the world. These are true perching birds with 4 toes per foot, 3 directed forward and one to the back. These birds are “designed” in such a way that the toes “automatically close” onto the perch. The more weight the bird imposes on the toes, the stronger the pull (force) exerted by the tendon on the tows closing them more fully; hence, these birds cannot fall off a branch when they sit totally relaxed, as the weight of the body and the contraction of the tendon keep the toes secure around the perch. Another characteristic of passerines are that the chicks are naked and helpless at hatching. Maybe I will just add the following classification – the format holds true for all living organisms :

Kingdom – Animalia - Animals
Phylum – Vertebrata - Having an internal skeleton
Order – Passeridae - Perching (Sitting) birds
Class – Aves - Birds – this is where my true interest lies
Family – Ploceidae - Weavers, sparrows & allies
Genus – Ploceus - first part of the bird’s name, always upper case & italicized
Species – capensis - second part of the name; always lower case & italicized & specific to this bird alone in the world. IOW, this is a Cape Weaver in normal English.

Taken @Krugersdorp Game Reserve Aviary; ISO 200 @ -0,7 EV; Nikon D70; Sigma 120-300 F2.8 lens & 2X converter @ Focal length 550 mm; 1/500 @ F8; Programme Auto Mode; Built–in TTL flash, Pattern Metering Mode; Manfrotto Tripod and Wimberley head; 50% cropping; little USM & some Hue & saturation brightness; reduced to Site size.

Hi Callie, another beautiful bird. Maybe I should come along over there ;-) A fine shot although it is slightly less sharp than your other work.
Greetings, Jan

Beautiful bird Callie.
Very nice color , great depth and good sharpness
Very good note
Well done

Good shot! Informative note too, as usual.. A couple of technical things though, firstly you've just lost the top edge of the red channel - as a matter of interest does the D70 do RGB histograms? Secondly although there's plenty of detail in your capture it's not being brought to the fore here - I think it would benefit from a little USM in my opinion. Well captured though :-D

A beautiful portrait shot.
Excellent colours and great DoF.
A nice capture,I look forward to seeing the others.

As always clean, sharp and well coloured against a good clean BG.

Good one to kick off the mini-series you're announcing, Callie. Nice orange/yellow hues in the plumage, and an alert eye. Wonderful DOF and as usual the most impressive notes. Thanks, and looking forward to the next ones.

Grote nota Callie, mooie vogelkop, prachtig gedaan! MOOI!

Mooi foto, Callie. The yellower the better!! Touch of USM perhaps? I notice you use a converter - I have tried a converter on many occations but have allways lost a lot of difinition on zoom lenses. Works better on prime lenses.

Oh!
her looking is not in kind mood:( ...but she is lovely:)
Amazing colors,a wonderful yellow tones, very beautiful callie,a glare in her eyes is a bonus, too.Very well & skilfully captured.
You did great.
