Great spotted woodpecker , Dendrocopos major (Större hackspett)
This one was very friendly and after a ½ hour he come and sit just one meters
from me, normally the are afraid for people.
I bribe him with part of my sandwich.

This is the second largest of the parti-coloured woodpeckers
(this is a free translation of the name we have on our 4 colourful woodpeckers).
We have 4 kinds of parti-coloured woodpeckers and this is the most common.
Great spotted Woodpecker , the most common
White-backed Woodpecker , is the largest of the colorful woodpeckers
Middle Spotted Woodpecker, very rare
Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, the smallest and quite rare

Totally you can find 9 species of woodpeckers in Sweden.
The rest of the woodpeckers

Black Woodpecker. ,the biggest , common
Grey-headed Woodpecker, quite rare
Green woodpecker , common
Three-toed woodpecker , not so common.
Wryneck, quite common

Il est trop mignon ce Woodpecker ! La photo est bien cadrée et les détails sont très nets.
Well done !

Magnificent! Beautiful composition and clarity. Colours and DOF are excellent. Well done Gert, another high quality post.

Cute capture, nice and sharp. Good colours, nicely oof background. I think I'd have cropped a little bit more right to get him more off center and loose the brown part of the background there.

Gert
Best picture of this guy I have seen! Saw them when I was in UK, but never this close. I will be tempted to crop a bit on the right and add a bit on the left, just for a stronger node point and impact, but this is a minor nit.
Saw a b'fly today and tried my extension rings, Hama Autofocus for Nikon, and it does not work on the D70. What do you use, dedicated Canon tubes?

Un carpintero!!!! Amo estas aves y no he tenido la suerte de retratarlas hasta ahora.
Bellos colores, excelente DOF y composicion con la rama en el lugar exacto dentro de la imagen.
10 puntos.

A woodpecker! I love these birds and I have not had the luck to portray them until now.
Beautiful colors, excellent DOF and composition with the branch in the exact place within the image.
10 points.

Stunning capture - the only problem with this is - Its not mine! Your DOF and detail is excellent. Well taken!

Very nice , plenty of detail in the whites and blacks against the good plain BG.

What a lovely shot, Gert. Supreme detail in the beautifully colored plumage, and an alert-looking posing. I like the simple positioning on the branch, and your fine use of DOF. Great stuff, congratulations.

Very nice capture of this woodpecker Gert. Wonderful colours and lots of details in the plumage. Though IMO the part below the branch does not contribute to the picture in any way so I took the libety to remove it as well as I ran a gentle Neat Image to remove some noise after resizing - hope it is OK.

Well it seems that we have reached the limit of photos for to-day so I wil post the WS tomorrow.

good potrait.
good BG. good color.

Very great shot with a good DOF.

Certainly one of my favorite birds, along with the sapsuckers and flickers. The clarity here is very nice, and depth of field so effective to bring focus right on this bird. Have you tried this bird on a third node? It certainly works centered.

Hi Gert

Great looking bird. Lovey pose. The colours are rich. I like the diagonal branch. Perfect BG. Thanks.

Had to take a peek back into your archives here just to see what i am up against. Me i like a challenge always and I also like to offer a challenge when possible. More than anything its also a great way to learn. So far between yourself and Paul I have had great advice much to thank you both for, also now from many more members on TN to who i am grateful for there ideas and comments.

Its great fun on this site and I really enjoy seeing what others produce. I like this picture of your woodpecker very much as all he is doing is just sitting there which is what amazes me as I only find them by listening for the banging on the trees. Great one.

Catch you later.
