What an experience! Out walking this summer we spotted this Roe Deer in the river (called a beck here in Yorkshire) close to home. It had come to drink at a time when the weather was unusually hot and the UK hadn't seen much rain for a few weeks. Not much time for the shot before it took off so it was point and hope with the camera!
Roe Deer are resident in the UK, primarily browsers their diet includes leaves of deciduous trees and shrubs, bramble sprays and arable crops. If undisturbed they can be active for most of the day, otherise they tend to be nocturnal. Adults tend to be solitary (though young animals may accompany their mothers for several months). Rutting is from June until August, implantation is delayed and young born in May or June. Often the white rump is the easiest thing to spot. |
