This young mule deer, one of a set of adorable twins, did not seem overly bothered by us passing mom and his/her sibling on the trail. Just looked up to say "Hi" and went back to eating...an almost non-stop activity. The twins were still pretty small and one can't help but wonder if they will survive the brutal Wyoming winter. Grand Teton Park has been known to get to as much as -50ºF in winter. If he/she survives this first winter then one has to worry that, as unwary as they are, they will have to survive the hunting season if they should happen to wander out of the park.
..........................................................................................................
From April through June, after about a 200-day gestation period, the doe delivers 1 to 4 young (normally 2). Fawns are born in late May or early June. A doe will usually produce a single fawn the first year she gives birth and then produce twins in following years. The fawn, colored reddish with white spots, weighs about 6 pounds at birth. It must nurse within the first hour and stand within the first 12 hours. During early weeks of life, the fawn sees its mother only at mealtimes for feeding. Spots begin to fade by the end of the first month.. They have white camouflage spots and are further protected by having little or no scent. Fawns usually stay with the doe for the first full year.

This was taken with my point and shoot camera. The photo uploaded a little darker than my desktop original so it lacks a little impact to my eye. Just did the usual pp: slight crop, levels, resize, sharpen

Hi Evelyn.
Very nice young mule deer. Very well done. TFS. Stefan

Evelynn,
Your previous was great but this is even better due to the pink and green colors everywhere. Very nice composition.

The deer has a very attentive look on his face and knows exactly what's going on and is choosing to ignore it! The ears are especially pricked and alert.
The flora surround allows us to see this beautiful creatures natural habitat. Nice post, well done.

Hello Evelyn,

Very nice shot. I like the composition and the lovely colors of the leaves. The deer looks nice too, you've got eyecontact. One nit is that I eould have liked to see the eyes a little less dark. Anyway, this is a nice picture! TFS!

Pieter

Hi Evelynn,
I wrote a whole critique about the difference in clarity, but then realized that I wasn't making any sense. Anyway, the clarity and details of this shot are excellent and to me the photo isn't too dark at all. The color of her coat blend in perfectly with the colors of the dry grasses and fall colored leaves but there is still enough difference to make he standout in this cluttered (please read it in a positive way, and if you know a better word, please let me know) composition. Great eye contact and excellent composed.

What a cute expression you have caught on that baby mule deer, Evelynn.
The details are very sharp, but the look on his eyes is very soft.
I read the response you wrote to Niek's comment, and I really like the way you describe the composition in terms of those triangles. I am beginning to see shots that way. It is interesting how those "triangles" interact and create a good composition. Fascinating stuff.

Lovely shot Eveylnn the colourfull foliage surrounding this beautifull animal makes for a superb composition seems like you've been spotted though! TFS rgds Necip.
