| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Gulls follow the ferry between Woods Hole, MA, and Vineyard Haven, MA (on Martha's Vineyard), because passengers feed them well. My mom lived on Martha's Vineyard for several years, so I have hundreds of gull pictures, of course.
This particular day, mixture of bright sun and clouds, the gulls were making passes right overhead, so I was able to get a number of close-ups. I have several others that show the whole body of the bird, but I liked the way the tips of the wing feathers are slightly transparent on this one.
I did minimal post-processing, just sharpened it and adjusted the levels a little.
Here are a few other gull pictures I've posted on Trek Nature.

Hi Michael, and welcome here on TN hope to see a lot of you.
I see lots of detail and potential, and also what you were aiming at. It is very awkward to really get an isea of the bird like this, and maybe also the reason for lack of comments. Be not discouraged. I would post this under the them of JUST MISSED, something where parts of the subject were cut off, the detail was not sharp, etc. I wouls like to see a nit of space in front of his bill, and the body more on a diagonal on the frame.
The real thing here is the very white BG light, if it was blue, the impact would have been greater.
This is in no ways meant as critique, I normally comment and only give critique whwn asked.
I think this is the first shot I have seen of the underside of a gull. I like it because the view is different from all the other gull ones on this site. The details of feathers are very clear. I know all the body isn't in the composition, but moving birds are hard to capture. I know, because I have tried it. Anyway, I like this one. Well done.
