[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I’ve previously posted fungi from Macquarie Pass National Park, so this time I thought a butterfly will do. This is a Symmomus Skipper (Trapezites symmomus), an endangered species. I think it’s ironic that this scarce butterfly is observed here feeding on an introduced weed (Lantana camara), though lantana does provide many bees, butterflies and birds with nectar. It’s interesting, that in places where mass lantana reduction occurs many smaller birds and mammals that use this plant for food and protection disappear. Anyway the skipper is widely distributed through eastern Australia though I have not seen this species before at this location. More information on Australian skippers can be found here

Nice and clear Chris. I have never seen this skipper before - not even on pictures. It is great that you managed to both sides of the wings in one picture - normaly people only take the topside. The dof is very good as well as the composition. TFS.

Chris, It's a nice shot with great color & some moisture on the flowers that adds.. Composed well also. Some detail had been lost in PP though..Overall a great post!

Very nice Chris, the colours are excellent and it's very good quality. The butterfly is well seen and looks a stocky specimen compared to our skippers. Very well done.

A great capture of this Skipper.
Excellent composition and DOF.

Great work,very well done.

This is grown in many places in India as a hedge. In fact we have soem in our apartment garden and I was trying out my macro lens on it. This is the usual colour though ours is more on the violet side.
The irony of the picture is that the common is brighter and more eye catching than the rare. But a rare pic and great capture.
