[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I saw this growing in my yard it seems to be some sort of fungus. I think it has an unusual look and have never seen one like it before. I thought I would share it and see what anyone here thought of it.

Hi Brian.
This look to me like an old Clathrus ruber, have a look HERE, and see if it looks like it.
Whit the little light you had a minitripod or diffuse flash would give you better DOF. Thanks for posting this one, I think it is a new one at TN.

Nice shot Brian I agree with extramundi it appears to be a clathrus ruber (from Latin) "red" is said to be edible but the caution flag is up on this one it must not be eaten raw. It's odor should keep you from doing anything but photographing it. Thanks for sharing you must be getting into the Spring aspect in your neighborhood. That one is early out.
