[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I live just on the edge of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Within the park is a great walking path, called the Towpath Trail, portions of which follow what used to be the Erie Canal. In the wet spring, there are many types of fungi to be found along the trail, due to such a vast array of fallen and rotting trees. There is a distinctive smell at that time of the year in the park. Everything is so green and plush, the extra brightness of this fungus really screamed at me. As usual, I will defer to the specialists here to educate me as to the type of fungus in this photo. For the record, I always make a note in the file info for my future reference. I walk the trail at least a couple times a week, and there is always a new picture to be taken. This was taken with my Canon, but I hope to find this fungus again next spring while carrying my Nikon! There was no cropping of this photo, just resizing for posting here. I have what I consider to be a better photo of this fungus, but this shot was a better closeup. I think textures catch my eye more than anything, and I was happy with the texture of the tree, to balance out the extreme color here.

This is Sulfur Shelf or also called Chicken of the Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus). It is a very delicious mushroom when picked fresh and sauteed and has an almost chicken flavor. I have picked and eaten it often. It is easy to spot in the woods because of the brilliant color you have depicked so nicely in this photo.

This is a nice capture of this fungi. This a good angle to have taken this fro even if you suffer a small bit of focus. At 90 degrees with the log you would have had better focus but lost on the depth of the fungi. Excellent capture.

Wow this fungi is VERY colorful and bright! Couldn't miss it on a hike in the woods could you? Very nice with the texture of the tree in the background. Well done.
