Hi John,
This is a very good macro!
You had a very good light and got a vivid and very contrasting colors.
I would have left more space surrounding the insect, so the image would benefit to have more "air" and space to let the scene "breathe".
I don't know if you did a crop or if this was the original image.
You got also a some noise, probably due to a high ISO value used. You can fix it easily with a filter in post production.

Hi John.
Maybe you are not an specilist on macro, but I find your image quite nice.
The composition is lovely, the magnification level very good and colours&lights are well managed.
The only thing I would point out is the large amount of noise that is seen on the OOF parts of the flower. Maybe it could have been inproved with some noise filtering software.

hallo JOhn,
Ja nu bent U in mijn gebied, grapje. zeer fraaie macro,
als U hier hetzelfde doet wat U de laatse tijd alleen maar doet, hoge F en langzame sluitertijd, zult U zien dat een betere foto maakt. Deze foto is zeker de beste macro van Uw kant en dat is een compliments van mij naar U toe. Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat U dit nog gaat overtroeven. De ruis is zeker niet nodig hier. zeer fraai werk John. Ja dat las ik ook nog het is inderdaad aan te bevelen. Ik werk meestal alleen maar met flits en dat werk super.

Very nice first close-up shot. I think this material (notes and critiques) will be useful for you (see Macro lessons). For fruitful help you should give EXIF-data.

Hi John, I am no expert on macro so I can't give you a lot of advice. I can say though that this is a very good shot of this bee. The composition with him passing over the stamens of this flower is great. The light, colour and detail I find incredible. I especially like how you have captured the pollen loose on the bee's bristles and packed away in those pollen sacks.

WE may need an imker to find out why this busy bee has such big clumps of pollen on its legs!

As to macros, I assembled a lessons Theme based on the notes from Alexei. Perhaps that will be helpful.

Hello John,
A pollenated bee... Quite impressive given the exposure data, esp. f/2.8. Short of using a tripod (which noone on TN seems to own :), I would suggest a flash (better yet, a flash bracket) for more depth of field and for avoiding wide-open softness. There seems to be some noise (ISO?) and jpeg artifacts, which are just facts of life. But I think I also see banding to the left of and below the bee's head. Is 5D known for banding?

Excellent details and focus on the bee. Nice colors too. The flower is a little "blown out" but I am sure you had a very bright sun. Maybe you can try a faster shutter speed or shoot manual mode and under-expose by one f-stop when the sun is so bright on white flowers. But, I realize your subject was the bee and it shows very well!

Bella macro mi viejo amigo con agradable composición y excelentes características técnicas, gracias al adecuado y escaso DOF y la correcta captación a partir del foco y agudeza obtenidos.
Existe una evidente pérdida de calidad, tal vez por el elevado ISO utilizado o por el post procesado de la imagen que degrada ligeramente el resultado final.

Beautiful macro my old friend with pleasant composition and excellent technical characteristics, due to appropriate and scarce DOF and the correct catchment starting from the focus and sharpness obtained.
Exists an evident loss of quality, perhaps for used high ISO or for the post processed of the image that degrades the final result lightly.

This is one of the best macros of a Honey Bee that I have seen on TN, despite the close cropping.

i am no expert either but i can say this is good
for real critique you can say there is slight noise in the background a slight 'feel' on the surface of pixels having been 'managed'
the result of course is perfect and way better than some i have seen...but there is a long way to go..for me too to get the crispness and naturalness that can be seen taken by the experts here
my tip is to use a smaller aperture and tripod if possible..if light is poor and you make the best of it as you have...then speed is critical especially hand held.

Hello John. Nicely closed on this bee. I like the way its body is covered by the pollen. Looks like the bee is still hungry feeding inside the petal of the beautiful stamens. Well done and best regards. Jusni
