Brilliant shot with excellent colours and details.
But there is some noise to be seen on BG that probably has been brought in by some overall postwork sharpening - easy to remove.

Photoshop Elements:

1) Selected noisy portions of soft BG by magic wand (tolerance 25%) and applied noise removal filter.
2) Further selective sharpening of bird.
3) Slight reduction of brightness: -5
4) Slight increase of contrast: +5

Hope you enjoy.

Hi Anton,
Superb picture !
Here's a little proposal to enhance the following points :
- highlight and shadow level adjustment
- noise removal
- sharpening
Hope you like it.
In my opinion, you should post a heavier file. This one only weighs 37,79 Kb. You can post files up to 200 Kb. The picture quality will be better.
Regards.
Serge

Hi Anton
Your photo stayed with me and I decided to come back and do a workshop to see if I could enhance it somewhat. Probably the outcome does not show all that much, but at least now I know the softish detail was not through too little USM. So, possibly my thoughts on the extended focal length and the shutter speed could be on the spot. I was not much concerned about anything else but the focus; however I did darken the BG just a tad.

Post Processing done:
First I selected the bird only and 'Lighten' it through 'Colour Variations' at 15% then I sharpened the bird with USM at 500%, 0.3 & 0 settings. Finally I darkened the BG just a little bit.

I hope you like the outcome.

Regards
Loot

Hi Anton
I have done a workshop on your beautiful Whitefaced duck. I hope it gives you some ideas on how to enhance your photos if you need to. All I did here was sharpened, adjusted the contrast and colour. TFS Janice

Hi Anton

Thanks for allowing for workshops to be posted.

As I said, this is a fine photo and I basically just wanted to address the softish focus, but in the process I found that levels could optimise the colours as well.

Post Processing done:
Altered the levels by finding the 'Black & White' points with the 'Threshold Tool' and then adjusting it with the 'Levels tool'. Selected the water area and removed noise with 'NeatImage' at its default settings. Maybe I should have tried to remove the slight noise in the ducks bill as well, but it was only after upload that I noticed that.
I then Inversed the selection so that only the duck was selected and applied 'USM' at 250, 0.3 & 0 settings. No further adjustments was necessary.

This changed the colours somewhat and maybe it reflects a more natural look as the reflection of the blue sky is more visible in the water surface.

I hope you like the optimisation.

Friendly regards
Loot
