I have rotated the picture using a trick I was introduced to on TN. when the horizon does not give the references needed, you can use the reflections in the water. Pick something as close to the centre of the picture as possible and find its reflection in the water. Reflections are always vertically below, so using a straightening tool pick something easily identifiable on the original and the refelction and then use the tool as appropriate.
Here I have used the mountains to the left of centre becuase they have a good reflection in teh water and it was easier that way.

All I have done is to drop the brightness and increase the contrast. nothing else.

 rotation | Aramok
(4799) [2007-09-10 13:04:46] [1] | Hi Ti
I have rotated this picture via the very large dead trunk in the centre of the picture using the rotation tool. I have simply set the top of the tool to the top of the trunk and the bottom of the tool to the same part of the reflected trunk. sometimes I do not rotate it to the full extent, but I have here as a demonstration for you.
I have also tweaked the blue level in the histogram just to pull a little more blue into that patch of sky.

 Composition | Aramok
(4799) [2007-09-04 04:48:06] | Hi Matt
I have cropped some of the foregound out using the standard crop tool, and then adjusted the sharpness a touch more, but just over the daisies becuase I did not want the rocks to get sharper. (if you just select the daisies (with a freehand selection tool) and make sure that you have a feather on (I used 20 pixels) so that the effect is gradual when it is 'turned off' it will look better.
Also I have tweaked the levels in the histogram just to boost the colours a touch.

Crop, Sharpen and Levels | Aramok
(4799) [2007-09-04 04:23:25] [1] | Hi Tom
I have had a little play with your picture...
I have cropped the image slightly to just place the Elk a touch closer to a third for the composition.
I have then run an Un-sharp Mask (USM) on the picture to pull some of the sharpness back after you resized it. Not known what application you use, I can't tell you where this is or what settings to use, but have a look in the help menu for your software and basically, if you sharpen it and can see halos around things like mountains to the sky, then you have over sharpened it.
I have also tweaked the green level slightly to add a little saturation to the greens which I felt was missing... Look for something like layers - levels and then you should see 4 options, (RBG, R, G, B) and you can alter each one individually. Play and see what happens...

 Darkening | Aramok
(4799) [2007-08-21 10:05:08] | Hi Neroli
-I have created 2 layers with the same image, darkening one of the layers so that the background is darker...
-I have then used a layer mask to hide the lighter area
-and then allowed the lighter layer to show through in selected areas.
-I have also then run a noise reduction on the end image
-and added a little sharpness (lost through the noise reduction).
Hope you like it
