this is a close up that shows the parts and should give an idea how the mouth works...

Here is the bird belonging to the excavation , this is the best shot I have of this type of bird so far , it was not like it was very shy or anything just not great light and it moved from tree to tree pretty quick , I think it is called a red-naped sapsucker.

listed camera info for this is not right , this was shot with a nikon d-300 at 400 mm (80-400mm lens) it is listing camera data from the original upload which I shot with my other camera ;-)

Hi , all that I have done is to crop the image into a 8x10 ratio , and recomposed it to a less centered composition. with the space that was present to the right of the Fox it gave an impression the you chose to cut the hind side of the animal off in favor of the vegetation. in the new composition it should give more an impression that the animal simply did not fit in the frame , and that the vegetation was used as a natural framing.

there is a bit of softness introduced to my workshop of your image due to resizing it , this would not be an issue working from your own original image.

I hope that you found this useful :-)

this is an image of the spider with its prey prior to its strike at it , I thought that it was an already eaten meal.

this image was shot two years ago on May 9 , the Mourning Cloak is not only early to emerge after winter , but also early to bread. I have yet to see either caterpillar or chrysalis for this insect , but will keep my eyes open for that too

thanks for looking :-)

and this is the last frame in the burst , in this frame the forward motion of the pursuing goose vs the upward motion of the upper goose serves to throw the bottom goose off balance and it falls backwards , looking at the image I would swear that I can see a small tuft of feathers in the beak of the pursuer , it is barely visible in this frame but on the left side of the falling gooses neck/breast you can see the black protruding beak , and I think also a little beak full of the intruding gooses tail feathers , I would know for sure if I had a slightly better angle on that....

here is the second last image in the burst , in this frame the pursuer gets its prize , and bites the butt of the intruding goose. as you can see I have lost tracking by this image , with the shutter fluttering at eight frames per second it got a bit hard to see clearly what was going on , the action was quick and I followed the upward motion of the upper goose , I had room to spare on the frame for both so will have to practice that some more :-*)

here is the image I pulled from my archives , it is one that I wish had turned out different , but in a way I like the way that it is against the standard rules , cutting the tail off the bird is not so great a thing , but also in a way , I kind of thought that it gives a strong impression of standing off to the side. another thing is that the focus is firm on the half goose rather than the action of the fight. I had my focus set to single point instead of continuous , this is among my very first learning images with a dslr. In a way I also felt that defocusing on the action worked out too though , because it kind of puts an emphasis on the standing to the side goose , and makes an impression of the fight being a background thing , kind of like the picture is ignoring it like the goose is.

well I never did upload the image so I guess I never really expected others to see it quite the same as me , but I have always been fond of this one , it is kind of a happy fluke shot to me. not every one would agree with that though, I would imagine...

thanks for looking
