Shadow-Highlight

Since it seems a dull day, I tried to bring up more life by highlighting the shadows by 15% with Shadow-Highlight. The to bring life in the animal's eye, I selected the weak catch light in it's eye and I increased the brightness and the contrast of it. Finally since I really like blured background, I selected it without touching the animal and I applied a Gaussian blur to simulate and even shallower depht of field.

These technics can help but you need to start with an interesting image at first, like yours.

I just changed cropping,
I reduced brightness by 20
I increased highlight 30 (shadow 0/highlight 30)

I should have used this methode first (WS picture to illustrate). It's a lot easier than DOS word processesor, and it's visual.

Primary colors: RED GREEN BLUE

Cloning off branch upper left corner

I first cloned off the branch in the upper left corner. I also add local sharpness on the bird only and I slightly increase brightness in favor of face details, but I must admit the BG loose some saturation in the process.

Color balance on water

Just wanted to see if blue water would look better. I did a very quick contour with the lasso, but didn't really made it accurately. I didn't correct either the green cast on the pelican's neck.
