I used unsharp mask at low settings, in Paint Shop Pro Photo XI, to remove the "hazy" effect and "lift" the colors a bit along with adding a touch more crispness. Then used the sharpen tool, set to a small radius and low strength settings to pick out a tad more detail in the bird.

Cheers, Mish

I ran this through unsharp mask at settings that sharpen only slightly but reduce "haze". Then used the colorfade tool to lift the colors a bit along with brightness/contrast tool. Finally I went to hue and saturation tool, set it to yellow and tweaked the saturation up just a little to bring those legs, beak and eye a little more color.

Finally, I cropped it some to move the bird a little more off center.

Not having the original to work with, this cropping has much reduced the dimensions. Since the whole birds were not in the frame to start with I thought that cropping to the head and neck would emphasize the lovely green eye and the expressive faces. It also allows for removing most of the bird above as well as the branch it was on which was quite distracting. Same for the fence rail behind them and the green wooden thing in the foreground.

I also brought up the contrast a little and darkened the overall image to improve the colors.

Hope you don't mind.

I ran it through Paint Shop Pro Photo XI - using the brightness/contrast menu I selected the levels tool. In there from a choice of levels/contrast etc, I used the levels option and accepted the program's suggestion, rather than adjusting manually. as it looked good to my eye. I then sharpened the entire image once and afterwards used the sharpen tool, set to a small radius and low settings to pick out a few more details around the eye and face. Hope you don't mind.

I use Paint Shop Pro Photo XI - first ran it through unsharp mask at settings that don't so much sharpen as remove haze. Then used the contrast/brightness level tool and tweaked it a bit there; next used the clarify tool which put a bit more contrast and lightened the sky. Finally gave it one overall sharpening.

Using Paint Shop Pro Photo XI I ran the image once through the clarify tool at the lowest setting, then in the brightness/contrast levels tool I took the default 'levels' option. Finished by sharpening it lightly. There isn't a whole lot of difference, but the added contrast gives it a bit more depth, I think. Hope you don't mind my playing around with your image. :-)

I ran this through Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. First used unsharp mask at settings radius = 60, strength = 20 and clipping = 4. Next used clarify tool at lowest setting and then adjusted the brightness and contrast levels. After that I used the digital noise removal tool.. adjusting settings 'til it looked good without too much loss of detail on the robin. Finally used the soften tool at various radius sizes with a relatively low density and hardness to further mask the remaining noise. I didn't do anything with that OOF branch in the foreground across the bird's breast. It probably could be cloned out. Hope you don't mind the liberties taken with your photo :-)

Original is a bit washed out looking. I ran it through Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. Tried the auto fix first and wasn't happy with that so I just went in and did an adjustment to the brightness and contrast levels. I think the contrast is still not sufficient, but that could be my eyes.. :-)

Next I took out a little of the digital noise, but not much as, at this small resolution, it tends to blur the main features.

I put it through the 'clarify' option and then sharpened a few little areas; especially tried to get the toes a bit sharper.

Finally cropped out the right hand side as this had lightened considerably when I adjusted the contrast.
