(8935) [2008-06-06 09:02:18] [5] | Hi James
Primarily this was done just to add a bit of sky in front of the eagle, but then I got a bit of an urge and played around with some of the other settings.
I made a slight adjustment to the "Levels" by making the photo a little darker in order to gain some exposure on the white tail. Then I applied the "Shadows/Highlight" tool mostly at default setting, but I adjusted the white slider to 50% darkness. This made the sky a bit too dark perhaps, but I'm not sure the sky might normally look at this location. Finally I gave it a wee bit of "USM" just to overcome the unsharpening effect that the optimisation had on the photo.
I hope you approve of the post processing.
Best regards

(8935) [2008-05-18 16:24:37] [5] | Hi James
I hope you don't mind me doing a workshop on this lovely posting of yours. It really is such a great shot so I am just doing this fun workshop to crop a bit of the bottom and because my fingers can never rest I played a bit with the saturation and contrast. I also removed a remnant piece of the bush that was still left over at the bottom left hand corner after the cropping exercise. Oh yes, after the cropping I increased the file size back to 800 pixels on the vertical length and saved to web with the quality increased to new larger size allowed at 283kB. I hope you approve of the optimisation done.
Best regards

(12162) [2008-03-11 09:08:07] [2] | I played around with some levels and shadows/highlights in photoshop to turn down the light in the sky just a bit and also added just a touch of saturation strictly on the rocks and grass.
Hope you'll like it :) |

(2837) [2008-02-13 22:58:06] [1] | Hi James, my intent in this workshop was to provide just a bit more contrast, and maybe a little more light in the midranges, but I didn't want to affect that warm light in the highlight region.
To do this I used curves. I first locked out the upper portion of the curve with a couple of anchor points. These were placed to prevent the light from changing on the upper region, no matter what I did below. I then placed an anchor point close to the middle of the curve and very subtley (is that a word?) increased it to give more light. Then towards the bottom of the curve (in the shadow region) I placed an anchor point and very slightly moved it down. This darkened the shadow region very slightly to give you the contrast you see in the workshop. I hope this meets with your approval. I have removed the copy from my terminal.

(12314) [2007-12-04 19:45:23] [1] | | I felt the tall grass sort of dwarfed this elephant. I tried a different crop to make it feel more substantial. I tried a little green adjustment to put more interest in the grass and a neutral color frame to visually recede and therefore the elephant feels more prominent. The dark trunk contrasts with the lighter background bringing it forward visually. |
