Intro: Hello, my name is Anna Eksteen. Sometimes affectionately referred to as "Miss Piggy", by my husband Loot. Don't worry, I'm actually very fond of this nickname.

I'm only a beginner and not much of a photographer at all. So far most of my photos were pure luck shots, but as they say "The more I practice the luckier I get". At this stage it is a case of point and shoot and then anxiously wait for the download to see the results.

My hobby and passion is to compile recipe books, which is quite different from taking photos.

Although I've been exposed to photography for a long time, through Loot's activities, I've never experienced it as a personal fulfilment. The thought of taking my own photos was lingering on my mind for quite some time, especially since Loot obtained the compact Sony. Obviously it was much more tempting than trying out the more advanced dSLR.

Finally the opportunity arrived while on a drive during our last Kruger Park holiday. Loot was busy shooting away with his Canon 350D when I saw this dainty blue bird near my side of the car. I grabbed the Sony, pressed the button, and ended up with a totally out of focus photo. Loot informed me that it was a Blue Waxbill and although useless we kept the photo as a souvenir for my first steps in the field of photography.

Thank goodness for digital cameras. Bankruptcy would have been a real threat if we had to pay for the development of all the wasted or no-good shots if it was still film photos. At least with digital photography you can take as many photos as you like and throw away those you don't like.

I might not be able to post or critique on a regular basis, but I'll try to visit when time and opportunity permits. I still don't not know much about PP and will have to rely on Loot's help at first.

Honest feedback on my postings are most welcome and I undertake to present my sincere and humble opinion on yours. I'm not all that familiar with the various technical terms used by the experienced photographers, but I am sure I will pick up and learn in good time.

Trek Nature is a fine place to learn about nature, see awesome photos, and to make friends from other countries. I have been so amazed at the variety of plants, insects, animals, birds, and natural phenomena displayed on this site.

We received such splendour on this lovely planet Earth to admire, to enjoy, and even to photograph. All of these are gifts received from the master designer our Creator God. His work is perfect!
