I've cropped this on the left to place the butterfly off-centre and then I've adjusted the highlights and contrasts a little and finally sharpened it.

this is a photo of Trametes versicolor. The body is much thinner and the concentric zones are more definite.

I just did a quick cloning to illustrate the point of having a more interesting horizon line between land and sky. I wanted the focal point, the tree, to have a more defined shape instead of blending in with the hillside. The line of the hill on the left side in the original, continued right into the line of the top of the tree. I wanted to see how it would look if one were to take the image from a lower position. I also brightened the image a bit to increase the value range.

I would have liked to have moved the horizon up or down a bit more but I cropped some off top and bottom so didn't gain much there : P I like the clouds without the empty blue bit above and I like the yellow flowers more in the foreground. I used levels and contrast to get a little more value range.

I felt that because the entire original image had so much contrast between the darks and lights, it was hard to determine a focal point that would help bring more order to the whole composition. I think with the crop, the design of the composition is readily apparent. Some might find it too symmetrical but I think it is kind of fun as it brings some order to the whole. I brough out a little more detail in the underexposed areas and also bathed the image with a light warming filter.

I wanted to bring out a bit of the wonderful curved river bank on the right side. I may have overbrightened it a bit. I do like to have something sharp in the foreground that the viewer can relate to. I felt that the dark right hand corner acted as a sort of barrier to entering the scene...Just a personal opinion. I also rotated the image just slightly and cloned out the vapor trail and sensor dust spots in the sky.

scaled photo to fill the 800 pixel frame. I then also worked on the colours and sharpness.
Finally captioned the photo with "Springtime in the Rockies"...

May 31st was when my parents wed!
