(2370) [2007-06-10 10:57:20] | ... aka "Meals to Go" or "Mewing About"
Larus Atlantis is a member of the Larus Borealis crowd...
Given that I implied that Larus Australis is a real gourmet, I must hasten to add that like its down-under cousin the Larus Atlantis doesn't take second place to any gull when it comes to being able to sniff out a "treat"... It will especially take seconds though as shown in this photo. It has even taken to take-out!
When I visited my bank recently I noticed in the parking lot, which it shares with the local 5* McD joint , a drama unfolding... Some twolegged guests at McD's had made a semi deposit of their spare "change". It didn't take long for a flock of craphawks to drag the deposit out of the "night-deposit-slot" and the fight for the spoils was on!
This shot is not the sharpest, nor is it a photographic marvel; however, I trust it illustrates how versatile gulls have become:
""As with many other gull species, the Herring Gull has become a successful scavenger, readily pestering humans for handouts of scraps, pilfering from unattended food containers or searching for human refuse at tips and dumps. Other food includes worms, fish, insects and crustaceans. ""
Tech talk: photo shot handheld; cropped and scaled for TN.
