magic wand & reduce noise | Silke
(5406) [2007-07-13 05:13:29] [3] | Hi Tony
I thought I detected a bit too much noise in the sky, so I tried to see if I could control it. Please let me know what you think.
I used the magic wand to select the sky, using the shift key to add the lighter parts. Then I reduced the noise just in the sky.
What do you think?

 Levels | Silke
(5406) [2007-03-08 13:04:57] [3] | What I did was quite simple. In Photoshop I simply changed the levels, increasing the brightness until just before any details would have been lost. The result helps the thembnail as well as the full image. I hope that you will approve
Best regards

crop to thirds rule | Silke
(5406) [2007-03-08 12:51:11] [2] | This beautiful elephant was a little lost in the frame because it was too centred. Here's how it changes when you crop it so that it is less centred. What do you think of the results?
Thanks fro looking

(5406) [2007-03-02 16:31:40] [1] | This is one of the rare instances where cloning IS permitted on TN.
Using the cloning tool, I have sampled a bit of the dark green close to the red number and simply pasted it over top to hide the red.

(5406) [2007-02-21 17:22:13] [2] | To focus attention on the flower, I have simply cropped it tightly from the right side. That gives it an a nice off centre composition too. What do you think?

(5406) [2007-02-21 17:15:22] | Hello Irena
This is such a sweet picture, but the poor little bird is too small in that big picture. So that we can see her better, I have cropped it tighter. I have kept the snowy branch above her head and those around her to show why she is cold.
What do you think?
Thanks for letting me play with your photo

 sharpen | Silke
(5406) [2007-02-19 09:07:31] [5] | I've "cheated" a bit for this, and started off with Pablo's WS (why re-invent the wheel?). Then I used the magnetic lasso to isolate the bird and sharpened just the lines in PhotoShop.
It won't sharpen an image that is MUCH too soft, but it does seem to help with one that is only midly out-offocus or suffering from camera-or-subject movement.
The tricky thing with this one is that the bird tends to blend in with its BG, so one must use the anchor points far more often (i.e. click the mouse often) as one works one's way around the outline of the upper body. The wing and tail feathers are a cinch though!
TFS
And thanks for letting me "play" with your bird

 through the window | Silke
(5406) [2007-02-13 11:37:25] | | This is one of several images of this backyard visitor, all captured through the kitchen window with my camera set to maximum zoom and mounted on a tripod. Perhaps when I return the lighting conditions will permit better shots -- IF he comes back!!! |
