(5128) [2008-02-15 20:47:47] [3] | Hi Angelina,
for this workshop I used the plug-in for Paint.Net called curves +.I selected the saturation curve and pushed up on it slightly, next I sharpened the image and resized the file size for up load to the ws.I hope that this version shows what a slightly underexposed image can do for your photo.Going to the left side increases shutter speed which tames harsh or strong light nicely. (3019) [2008-01-23 00:51:57] [2] [+] | Darkened shadows, Darkened Highlights, added some mid tone contrast, then adjusted brightness. Added a bit of unsharpmask.
Given your sunshine,I figure that you could count on a few certain camera settings. A still subject like this would mostly be set around 1/250 sec at an f/8 on my camera. It gives nice DOF that way, and wil not cast too much light on the whole surroundings.
Anyways...that's what I normally find from my exif data, so I stick to it on manual settings.
But then I shoot always in RAW, and it is easier to adjust the balances afterwards.
Please take some more of this bird. It is a really colourful and unique species. I rarely get a chance to see this type. |

 White balance corection | CeltickRanger
(15122) [2008-01-21 06:06:22] [3] | Hello Angelina
in your photo there is a domince of the highlights
coming from a problem of the white balance
here is the way that learned (in College in 1995)
how to correct that, give a colour correction to a image
in Photoshop
- Levels
- in Levels you set your White Points (highlights) to 5% of dot
(you can go from 5 to 10%)
- in Levels you set your Black Points(shadows) to 95% of dot
(you can go from 90 to 95%)
- Then you can or go and give manually with the pipet
your 5% where you wanted, where is the most white
in your image, samething your 95% where is the most
black in your image
- Or you can leave that for Photoshop
and let him do it by AutoLevels
- With the new versions of Photoshop
there is in other options
- In Levels you click Options
and choose the way you want it than choose an option
- i choose « Find dark & light colors » and the i clicked
- than i gived another very little correction by Curves
-the i working with layers and layers Mask
i gived a sharpening only to the bird
i hope you will like my Workshop
Merci

here is my take on your sparrow photo.I did my best to remove some of the noise, darken the contrast some and cropped and slightly sharpen up the photo before re-uploading.I hope you don't mind. Bob |

(1020) [2008-01-11 16:12:52] [2] | | I felt the photo could benefit from a few less twigs and some noise reduction. I used Clone tool and healing brush to remove a few twigs and the Diffuse filter to reduce the noise in the sky. Hope you like it. |
