The Lilac-breasted Roller, Coracias caudata, is a member of the roller family of birds. It is widely distributed in sub-Saharan Africa and the southern Arabian Peninsula, preferring open woodland and savanna; it is largely absent from
treeless places. Usually found alone or in pairs, it perches conspicuously at the tops of trees, poles or other high vantage points from where it can spot insects, lizards, scorpions, snails, frogs, small birds and rodents moving about at ground level. Nesting takes place in a natural hole in a tree where a clutch of 2–4 eggs is laid, and incubated by both parents, who are extremely aggressive in defence of their nest, taking on raptors and other birds. During the breeding season the male will rise to great heights, descending in swoops and dives, while uttering harsh, discordant cries. The sexes are alike in colouration. |

(3527) [2007-09-25 11:55:13] | In Photoshop: some 30% and 1.5 pixel radius sharpening, enhancing the shadows. The sharpening process would work best with RAW pictures, in JPG modus the result is not often convincing.
I hope you find it an improvement,
Yours, Dietrich |

I feel that cropping out the unwanted reflections on top left corner makes this a better picture.

 Levels | vanderschelden
(26640) [2006-09-19 10:22:01] [1] | Levels...put the black into 'end tail' and the white
on a white part of the bird.
The effect though is not a lot: a bit more contrast.
Checked the colour balance and IM0 this is okay! |
