| Intro: | I started taking picture –like most of us, I assume- during our vacations at beautiful places or at a family gathering or graduation. Only few of us, started from a school of photography. I did not say that formal education in photography was not good, some of them were excellent. What I am saying is most of us falling in love first, before seriously learn about photography. I am already deeply in love with photography, but have no chance to enter any formal education related to this field. I went to Univesitas Sriwijaya (BS, 1982), University of Kentucky (MS, 1987), and Cornell University (Ph.D, 1989), but none of them in photography. I cannot recall when exactly I took my first shot –but it should be before era of digital camera; but honestly, I started to spend more time and more seriously in photography this year (2006). So, I cannot call myself a photographer, not even an amateur photographer, but yes! I do love photography and eager to learn more and more about it. This is the main reason I joined TrekNature [also TrekEarth and TrekLens, however due to time constraint now I am only active at TN]. Yes, I have learned a lot from critiques [including your critiques] and will learn more…. Besides photography, I also love traveling [or may be because I like traveling, then my passion of photography develops]. I have visited several countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hongkong, China, Taiwan, Japan, India, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, USA, and Australia. However, in most cases, I did not have much time for taking picture during these ‘formal’ visits. In the past, most of my photos were traveling photos [of interesting places to visit], documentary photos, but lately I am more interested in nature photography…. With love, Ben Lakitan | |
