The overcast skies gave a gray film type feeling over this fine image. An easy fix was to do an auto level adjustment to throw off the gray/blue hue. If that didn't work, I would have just done a manual adjustment using a bright white point only.

To give the image a little zing, I did a curves adjustment (two points, one at 1/2 another at 1/4) and then some levels adjustments

I adjusted the levels based on a white point to throw off the gray on the bird and also did a curves adjustment using two points (at center and at 1/4) to make it stand out with a little zing

I adjusted the levels based on picking a white point in the snowy background. The image was mostly monochrome and going to grayscale didn't loose anything, but added a little colder feeling while still keepint the whites intact.

To bring out some detail in the dark areas of the fox, a contrast mask technique was applied. Then to do both white balance and exposure correction for the snow, I did an auto-levels on the while image. It is important to do the steps in this order because if the auto-levels were done before the contrast mask, the contrask mask would make the snow gray again rather than keep it white.
