Lightening and Darkening an Image | Robbrown

Having copied and pasted your image into my image editor PS(CS) I enlarged it slightly from 400PX to 600PX just to make it larger.
I think used the shadows and hightlight tool to adjust the bright and dark areas to reveal the hidden details in the dark and bright areas.
if you do not have this you can do it by 1st brightening/lightening the image, then Use the burn/darken tool with a soft edged brush to darken down the bright areas.
