D-Lighting (Shadow Protection)

I used the D-lighting feature in Nikon's Capture NX2 to lift the shadow detail, then a "control point" centred on the eye to bring out the "catchlight." All this detail is in your original - it just needs a little work to bring it out.

This is what I tried to correct at the top part - I think this ugly thing is a consequence of increasing contrast. I'll repost with a nicer correction later on.
